Welcome to the Glenn L. Martin Wind Tunnel at the University of Maryland. We have tried to reflect our work and our enthusiasm for low speed aerodynamics. We are engaged in research, development, and education activities with applications spanning many areas including work on airplanes, automobiles, yacht keels & sails, and submarines.

Off-Wind Sail Test Rig in GLMWT

Test rig developed for studies of design methods for off-wind sails in collaboration with Quantum Sails of Annapolis, MD under a series of grants from MTECH's MIPS program.

Martin Aircraft Co. sea-plane design developed in GLMWT in the 1950's

Propeller driven sea-plane design developed in GLMWT just before the development of the P6M turbojet powered sea-plane that was the last aircraft design of the Martin Aircraft Company. The Martin Aircraft Company of Baltimore was a predecessor of Lockheed Martin Co.
